What I get up to in my role at Bupa UK

Design
direction

I lead six squads working on key customer digital touchpoints and transformation enablers. This includes the flagship app Bupa Touch and the recently delivered digital GP app Bupa Blua Health.

Focusing on customer-centricity

I drive change in our approach, helping stakeholders to become more customer-centric, prioritise and deliver the right thing.

Defining experience strategy

I define design principles, user journeys, and interface guidelines to ensure we design and deliver to the highest possible standard. I drive product design direction.

Empowering others

I create a positive environment helping my colleagues to take ownership of their work, think critically about their design decisions, and understand how to combine user and business goals to achieve the best outcomes.

Digital transformation

I drive behavioural and process change between design, product, engineering, and delivery teams, allowing us to work better and faster together and deliver the right thing for our customers.

Changing the way we work

I introduce and optimise ways of working for our teams, facilitating improvements, and adapting to directional changes.

Educating others

I continuously educate and provide thought leadership on agile methodologies and the design thinking process. I run training sessions and workshops and write for internal audiences.

Navigating complex environments

I understand the nuances of our organisation’s culture, structure, and processes and create strategies for becoming more customer-centred.

People
leadership

I oversee and support over 45 UX, UI, and content designers and researchers. I create a transparent culture and prioritise psychological safety and development as critical elements to a happy and highly engaged team.

Helping others grow

I recognise my colleagues’ unique strengths and perspectives and provide them with opportunities to learn and develop their skills through training opportunities and mentorship.

Prioritising the team’s wellbeing

I ensure that my colleagues feel supported and valued. I create opportunities for the team to come together and positively reflect on how they work with each other and provide feedback, building respect and trust.

Creating future leaders

I run a people managers community of practice, creating a safe space to learn and grow, supporting and nurturing the next generation of people leaders.
